Wellness Wednesday: How to Recharge After a Busy Week

Hi readers! Happy Wednesday.

You may have noticed that I didn’t post last week. I had several big work projects to finish up, a networking event in NYC, a friend’s out-of-state wedding, and a vacation to plan! Given all that, I took a step back from the blog to focus, but now I’ve got a week off and I’m ready to recharge.

If you’re anything like me, you might have trouble practicing restorative self-care instead of, say, watching 2 seasons of Friends and eating leftovers for three days. This can be especially difficult if you don’t always feel like you deserve that care.

Here’s some of the ways I like to recharge after a busy week:

1. Get outside.

Take a bike ride, go for a walk and listen to an audiobook, make plans to swim with a friend, or sit in your backyard for a while. When I’ve been working inside for long stretches of time, it feels so refreshing to enjoy life outside of the office.

2. Allow yourself to binge… a little.

I’m guilty of Netflix bingeing like there’s no tomorrow, but it isn’t always restorative. Instead of spending the whole day on the couch, I’ll set a limit for myself or break up TV time with other activities like listening to podcasts, reading, or cooking a good meal. That way I get to enjoy Nailed It and not be a total couch potato.

3. Clean your space.

This might seem counter-intuitive, but trust me! You can’t feel relaxed in a messy space. Pop on a podcast and do some tidying. If you’re up for it, do a deep clean, so that when your me-time is over, you can go back to your normal schedule with a neat space! Try an Unf*ck Your Habitat Weekend Challenge; they have very doable schedules!

4. Explore a new skill.

When I have some time off, I like to learn new things. I’m a big fan of Brit + Co’s online classes. My favorites are the Embroidered Typography class, Fauxligraphy: Pen Calligraphy class, and How to Create A Charming Cocktail Party (which is free right now!) You can also explore new skills on YouTube–hello baking tutorials–or Pinterest!

5. Get out of town.

Literally! Sometimes we need a change of scene to feel refreshed. Whether it’s a quick day trip to the next town over or a road trip with a pal, check out fun things to do in the area and make plans! Check out the restaurant you’ve been meaning to visit, go to a museum or a theater. Go exploring!

Okay y’all, go restore yourself, and I’ll talk to you on Friday!
